There are two pristine islands lying alongside each other in Cambodia’s unspoilt Koh Rong archipelago. Known locally as Song Saa, which means ‘The Sweethearts’ in Khmer, they now form Cambodia’s first private island resort

Most of Cambodia’s islands scattered across the blue waters of the Gulf of Thailand remain undeveloped offering deserted oases of virgin rainforests, tropical reefs and white beaches. Song Saa resort spans the islands of Koh Ouen and Koh Bong, connected by a footbridge over a marine reserve that has been established to safeguard the islands’ reefs and marine life including dugongs, seahorses and exotic species of tropical fish.

With the recent opening of the international airport at Sihanoukville, tourism in this tropical paradise is a growing trend. Rising to meet this demand, Song Saa will be positioned at the top end of the market for luxury resorts in Cambodia as well as setting a high environmental precedent.

On location

Song Saa Private Island is just a one-hour flight by private plane from Siem Reap or 30 minutes by boat after landing at Sihanoukville International Airport. Siem Reap has direct, daily flights to Asia’s main airport hubs such as Bangkok and Singapore making Song Saa a remarkably accessible, yet remote property.

Away from home comforts

There are 27 intimate villas at Song Saa, all built from sustainable materials and in perfect harmony with the natural environment. Uncompromising on luxury, they are designed to reflect the simple beauty of the surroundings.

Highly individual in design, the resort is inspired by Cambodian fishing villages with features such as over-water buildings, thatch roofs, rough-hewn natural timbers and drift wood furnishings. Guests will enjoy uninterrupted sunrise or sunset views from their Overwater, Beach or Jungle Villas, complete with private pools and all the creature comforts Robinson Crusoe could only fantasise about.

Each villa promises a sanctuary where guests can shower looking out over the ocean, sip cocktails whilst watching the sun set from their private veranda or have the resort’s chef treat them and their guests to fresh seafood under the stars. A twobedroom Royal Villa comes complete with its own private jetty for speedboat arrival and offers exceptional luxury and privacy for those in search of a discrete island hideaway.

At your leisure

Song Saa is working closely with government and non-governmental organisations, conservation authorities, marine biologists and community leaders to protect the environment and safeguard local livelihoods in a sustainable way. All this makes its Dive Centre one of the island’s leading attractions. It has a fully fledged marine biology team which will arrange all sorts of activities to showcase the local villages, marine life, nature and neighbouring islands; some of which are mountainous so offer amazing hikes, nature trails, wildlife and waterfalls.

A beachside water-sports centre offers sailing, diving, kayaking and snorkelling, while more relaxing activities include a Cambodian cooking school, champagne sunset cruises, stargazing and a moonlit cinema. The resort also has a spa set on its own island, providing the perfect location to enjoy a fantastic array of treatments, alongside a wellness centre for yoga and meditation. Romantic dining can be enjoyed at the Overwater Restaurant, where guests can sample dishes created by Neil Wager, the former executive chef from North Island.

Must do . . .

Explore the rainforest wildlife and nature by taking a day’s walking tour with Song Saa’s English-speaking guides.

Costs

From £430 / €500 / $668 per person per night including all meals and drinks, laundry, mini-bar, speedboat transfer from the neighbouring island of Koh Rong and most watersports, activities and excursions.

If you like nothing more than to lie back and relax in a deepwater bath, Laguna Spa could be exactly the tub you need. It’s made from the finest wood by Alegna, a Swiss company which formerly specialised in yacht building, and incorporates the best elements taken from spa-culture.

Many tests were carried out, prototypes built and design stages passed through in order to find the optimum form. The resulting wide rim and its integrated overflow enable the tub to be filled to the very brim so that excess water can then ‘gurgle’ gently away between the pebbles. This soothing system allows you to relax your neck and rest your head back in a good depth of warm water.

The highly resistant special varnish has been tested under the harshest conditions to guarantee optimal protection and ensure that the wooden bathtub will have a very long service life. There are several different fine woods, shapes and fittings to choose from so that you can select your preferred, personal model. Attractive optical accents can be set with different pebbles or a choice of other materials. Last but not least, due to their modular form of construction, the tubs can be supplied as fully equipped Jacuzzis and be installed directly into a bathroom or even a yacht.

£17,290 / €19,860 / $27,680

We head to the US to explore the property as well as tourist delights of specific areas in California, New York and Florida

Hollywood Hills California

The affluent and exclusive neighbourhood of Hollywood Hills is in the south-eastern Santa Monica Mountains. Although Hollywood has long represented the glitz and glamour of the film, television, and music industries, most studios have moved away from this quirky district in favour of other Los Angeles’ neighbourhoods. However, Hollywood still attracts millions of visitors each year who travel there to pay homage to their favourite stars and perhaps even catch a glimpse of some world famous celebrities.

Play

Hollywood Boulevard

The ‘heart’ of Hollywood is at the intersection of Hollywood Blvd and Highland Avenue where most of the most famous Hollywood tourist attractions can be found. These include celebities’ hand/footprints in the cement courtyard of the Chinese Theatre, the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood and Highland entertainment complex, Madame Tussaud’s and more. A short walk away are more of the familiar attractions, such as the Hollywood Wax Museum and Ripley’s Believe it or Not.

Stay

The London West Hollywood

Situated in the Hollywood Hills along the famous Sunset Strip, overlooking fabulous views of the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills skylines, The London West Hollywood is convenient to all that the city has to offer. Honoured with the AAA Four Diamond award, and recognised by both Conde Nast Traveler on its ‘Hot List’ for 2009 and Travel + Leisure as the No. 1 hotel in California on its ‘World’s Best’ list for 2010, this all-suite West Hollywood hotel, formerly known as the Bel Age hotel, expertly combines modern style with the allure of Hollywood.
www.thelondonwesthollywood.com

Shop

Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills

The stretch of shops and boutiques on Rodeo Drive is only three blocks long but they constitute the most famous shopping district in America, and probably the most expensive three blocks of shops in the world. It’s here that the rich and famous do their shopping, and where tourists window-shop while trying to spot movie stars on the fabled street.

Dine

Ago Restaurant, West Hollywood

This chic Italian restaurant caters to the film industry’s power crowd. Robert DeNiro is part owner, so the star power is bound to stick! It’s famous for delicious brick oven pizza, health-conscious pasta, fish, and meat dishes. The clientele comes here for casual upscale Italian food on the al fresco terrace, bordered by cypress, olive trees and covered with tendrils of grapevines and bougainvillea, or in the somewhat rustic dining room. The open kitchen and bar add ambience to the space.

When only the best in The World will do, this penthouse suite is classified as the finest residence onboard The World of ResidenSea.

Explore the world and have an experience of a lifetime

When only the best in The World will do, this penthouse suite is classified as the finest residence onboard The World of ResidenSea. You can rent this apartment on a voyage of discovery

The World is the first and only private residential community at sea. This extraordinary 12-deck, 644-foot vessel first set sail in 2002, and officially sold out four years later. The World’s continuous worldwide itinerary takes you to some of the globe’s most exotic locations.

As is the case with any private community, select apartments become available for resale from time to time. One such apartment that is now available is The World Suite. Due to its unrivalled location, size and flexibility, it’s hard to find a more unique residence anywhere in the world.

Promising The World
An Ocean Penthouse combining Apartments 1110 & 1108, totalling more than 4,100 square feet, this is the largest apartment onboard. It includes five double en suite bedrooms, one double en suite study bedroom, two living areas, two dining areas, two kitchens, both with laundry facilities, and the largest residential veranda.

The World Suite is custom-designed and can comfortably fit up to 12 people, making it ideal for large families or groups of friends visiting the ship together, as its connected living spaces have internal dividing doors and private entrances for assured space, privacy and flexibility. The apartment is one of only a few to offer both bow and port views and a 150-foot long veranda. The en suite study bedroom offers a quiet place to use the internet or a convenient extra sixth bedroom for children or an au pair.

Bigger and better
The ship’s overwhelming success and the increased demand for bigger, more luxurious apartments led to 1110 and 1108 becoming a multi-suite living option for the well-travelled, discerning guest. These combined apartments have been cleverly configured with internal doors (some disguised as book cases) allowing for a variety of rental options with two, three or six en suite bedrooms.

Each suite within the apartment is outfitted with a range of amenities including sophisticated home entertainment centres in the living rooms with a comprehensive supply of the latest movies and music; space for private, catered meals; dining areas with wet bar facilities; fully equipped kitchen and laundry areas; stunning views from floor to ceiling windows; Internet, fax and phone services; satellite television,

Other onboard offerings such as daily housekeeping, private chef services, dry cleaning, concierge and 24-hour room service allow those onboard to be free to explore and enjoy the ship. The World offers four high-quality restaurants, a delicatessen, an expansive fitness centre and The World Spa by Banyan Tree, a golf simulator, onboard theatre and art gallery, marina for water sports, and much more.

Reflection on a new collection
The Mayor of Islington, Councillor Phil Kelly recently met with Family Mosaic to officially unveil Reflections, a collection of new apartments at City Road Basin, EC1. Welcomed by directors of Family Mosaic, the mayor was given an overview of the development and a tour of two stunning show

apartments and the marketing suite. Reflections is a landmark 14-storey building comprising 50 one and two-bedroom apartments. Designed to provide chic, high spec affordable new homes for first time buyers, these properties enjoy an enviable waterside location on the Regent’s Canal.

A hair-raising experience
It was a highly-charged afternoon as over 40 staff and salespersons, including Mohamed Ismail, CEO of PropNex Realty shaved their heads at the company’s headquarters to help raise $44,687.48 for the Children’s Cancer Foundation. PropNex Realty had embarked on this charity initiative five months before by pledging $100 for every

male and $500 for every female to volunteer. Donations had been forthcoming through online contributions, collections at the office reception and the many appeals that staff had spearheaded for donations to the cause. Volunteers had also taken an internal challenge to outdo each other in fundraising.

Cause for celebration
Winners of the European Property Awards supported by Bloomberg Television and Google have been announced at a glittering gala presentation dinner at The Park Lane Hotel in London’s Mayfair. These awards are part of the long established International Property Awards which seeks out the best real estate professionals across the globe. Later this year, top-scoring winners from Europe will compete against other winning companies from Asia Pacific, Africa, the Americas and Arabia to find the ultimate World’s Best in each category. The property industry is now watching with great interest to see how well Europe competes against the rest of the world when the final results are revealed at London’s Savoy Hotel on December 12th.

If you’ve ever envisaged yourself saddling up a horse in Montana and living out the full billionaire lifestyle, the Ranch At Rock Creek can fulfil those aspirations

Big skies, big dreams and limitless possibilities – the Ranch At Rock Creek is a place where guests can experience the ‘true West’ without sacrificing true comfort. Right in the heart of Montana’s amazing scenery, the ranch land offers wide-open spaces and the opportunity to experience endless outdoor recreational activities.

A luxury haven covering 6,000-acres, the resort is the brainchild of Jim Manley, a banker who spent 20 years searching for the perfect location. Once a billionaire’s home, the Ranch At Rock Creek, as its name suggests, has a bubbling creek running through the property.

On location

An untouched wilderness, the 10-square mile run near Philipsburg is blessed with undulating alpine meadows and slow weaving trails that just beg you to take up the reins and enjoy the scenery on horseback.

Away from home comforts

As a super deluxe ranch the range of accommodation offered is outstanding. Granite Lodge forms the heart of the ranch and is where the dining room, spa and saloon are also located. There are accommodations within the lodge itself as well as other options such as cabins and luxury canvas cabins. For large groups, there is also a five-bedroom and a three-bedroom house, offering slightly more privacy, but still within walking distance of the main lodge and all amenities.

Meals at the ranch reflect the atmosphere and location and are served in the Granite Lodge. The attention to detail and variety of the fine dining offered will not go unnoticed, with all beer, wine and cocktails included and available until midnight.

At your leisure

Riding at the ranch is very much designed to each individual’s requirements and the fantastic surroundings make this very diverse and scenic – if you inform the activities co-ordinator what you would like to do, the chances are it can be arranged.

All ranch activities are included –from mountain biking trails, to hiking, fly fishing, wildlife watching, sporting clays, archery and trips to nearby Philipsburg and its many attractions. And, for those wanting a special treat after a day spent adventuring, the full service spa will provide relaxation, beauty or intuitive pampering. Indoor entertainment is provided by the Silver Dollar Saloon which adjoins the Granite Lodge, part of a $3 million dollar refurbishment it includes a billiards hall, whiskey bar, movie theatre and four-lane bowling alley.

Last but not least, as The Ranch At Rock Creek operates all year round there is also the option to take a sleigh ride in the winter months or go skiing at Discovery Basin – a mere 30-minute drive from the resort.

Must do…

Let Ranch Rider arrange a self-drive itinerary for you exploring all the highlights of the area.

Stéphane Parmentier is a renowned Paris-based interior architect and designer who was head of womenswear at Givenchy and assistant to Karl Lagerfeld before setting up his interior architecture and design agency. This year he has launched his first furniture collection in partnership with Ormond Editions at L&B London.

‘Altaïr’ is a brand new collection of accent pieces which can be used as stools, tables, and bedside tables in which stone and wood takes a leading role. For Stéphane, the rule of elegance is to avoid being obviously showy or ostentatious, so with ‘Kask’ (shown here) he opted to use wood and statuary marble. He then lightens them with perforations or geometric cut-outs sculpted using ultramodern techniques.
