Everything that has previously been taken for granted in billiard table design and technology has now been challenged. This striking transparent table from Nottage Design blends ultra modern styling and new patented technology to make the perfect centrepiece of any games room.

The G1 is Nottage Design’s flagship pool table, complete with ball return built into the designer frame for the ultimate aesthetics. By making a feature of pocketed balls, there’s no more guessing which ball just went in! The frame is highly rigid and heavy providing excellent support to the glass and features a precision levelling system.

The playing area is made of the patented Vitrik transparent surface on top of a 15mm toughened glass top. This premium safety glass is four to six times stronger than standard glass and being very rigid and flat, is not prone to sagging or warping so provides a great alternative to slate.

The Vitrik playing surface replicates the rolling resistance of an average speed cloth. It is hard wearing, allows spin to be applied and retains consistent roll characteristics over its lifetime.

Designed to be the ultimate, cutting-edge statement to complement the most contemporary and luxurious interior, the G1 pool table is available in a choice of colours, bumper fabric and glass tint. Each one comes complete with high quality 2.25″ balls, a triangle, two matching silver cues and a bridge stick.

£37,000 / €44,000 / $58,000 – www.nottagedesign.com

The legendary Kahala Hotel & Resort has been offering a serene and secure oceanfront environment for its guests for almost half a century.

Since opening in 1964, the Kahala has hosted every American President since Lyndon Baines Johnson, legions of foreign royalty and dignitaries, a plethora of cinema and rock stars, and even the Dalai Lama. A $52 million renovation project on its rooms, signature suites and public areas was completed in 2009 bringing the resort firmly into the 21st century.

On location
At the very end of one of O‘ahu’s most scenic drives around the iconic Diamond Head Crater landmark, The Kahala Hotel & Resort is private and secluded without being remote. It’s situated in one of O‘ahu’s most exclusive residential neighbourhoods fronting an 800-foot stretch of sugary white-sanded beach. The well-manicured greens of the prestigious Waialae Country Club border the property on one side while the ocean protects its borders and limits access on the other.

Just minutes away is Kahala Mall with shopping, theatre and restaurants, the Islamic-styled ocean-side estate of famed heiress Doris Duke, and Honolulu’s largest Farmer’s Market. Just a little further a field is Oahu’s cosmopolitan ocean playground – Waikiki, some of Hawaii’s great snorkelling and surfing beaches – Hanauma Bay and Sandy Beach, and challenging world-class golf courses – Ko’olau and Luana Hills Country Club. Honolulu International Airport is a quick and convenient 12 miles away on the H-1 freeway.

Away from home comforts
The Kahala’s Tower and Dolphin wings feature 338 elegant rooms with contemporary comforts such as wireless internet access, his-and-her vanities and closets and Sony 40-inch flat screened LCD TVs.

Views range from ocean expanses with Diamond Head and Koko Head Craters, to golf fairways and lush tropical gardens.

Signature Suites
The Kahala Kai and Kahala Beach Suites offer increased seclusion and privacy near the Dolphin Lagoon and are only steps away from beautiful Kahala Beach. They create a contemporary and distinctly island-style ambience complete with dining table and an outdoor barbecue grill perfect for entertaining family or up to 50 guests.

The Presidential Suite, with its magnificent ocean views, is favoured by guests for its residential grand beach estate feel. The two-bedroom living space features dark woods, clean white details and a demure colour scheme.

The Imperial Suite is a spacious, 2,200 square foot sanctuary offering separate master bedroom, living room, and office spaces designed with Hawaiian residential sensibilities for increased comfort. The apartment features commanding views of the Pacific Ocean from Koko Head to Diamond Crater.

This suite has hosted England’s Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles and Princess Diana; India’s Prime Minister Indira Gandhi; their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan; and Monaco’s Prince Rainier and Princess Grace, among many other celebrities, Heads of State and captains of global industry.

At your leisure
The Kahala Spa, with its serene outdoor lounge, couples’ massage and treatment rooms and exclusive brands of spa products, is an idyllic spot for pampering and rejuvenation for all. Hawaii is a pre-eminent wellness destination and so the spa embraces Hawaiian culture as well as techniques from around the world. Treatments are inspired by the beliefs of the ancient Hawaiians and infused with influences of Asian cultures. Each treatment room has 550 square feet of space and features a personal relaxation area, changing area, private shower and landscaped courtyard of native Hawaiian flora.

Complementary scuba, surfing or stand-up paddle boarding lessons, or hands-on experiences in Hawaiian crafts such as lei making, hula, or strumming a ukulele are regularly scheduled for guests’ enjoyment. A team of Kahala Beach Butlers brings on the pampering whether poolside or on the beach, with food beverage service and Wi-Fi connections. Children can enjoy The Kahala’s Keiki Club and adventure activities such as reef walks, bamboo pole fishing, and Hawaiian arts and crafts.

Personal trainers at the CHI Health Energy fitness centre will customise a complete fitness program in consultation with guests’ home fitness counsellors and Pilates, hula aerobics and beach workout classes are also available. Golf outings, eco-tours and ocean adventures such as deep-sea fishing, parasailing or whale watching, can all be easily arranged through Kahala’s full-service concierge.

The Kahala’s exquisite fine dining opportunities include five restaurants and lounges from which to choose. As an example, the renowned and award-winning Hoku’s offers gourmet Asian and Pacific-influenced cuisine under the skilled and creative hands of master chef Wayne Hirabayashi.

Must do…
Swim with the playful Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins in Kahala’s 26,000 square foot natural lagoon. The Dolphin Quest trainers offer daily education programs where guests can experience these wonderful animals up-close.

Costs
Daily rate from £304 / €363 / $475

If you are hoping to find something a little out of the ordinary either for yourself or as a gift, we may have just the inspiration you need.

The Jacob & Co Grand Collection is like the original Five Timezones watch in displaying the local time, as well as the time in four reference cities around the globe. Each one of which is a global hub for both 24-hour commerce and a cultural life that never sleeps.

However, unlike the earlier Five Timezones watch, it shows the local time on a dial of the same dimensions as the other timezones, allowing the overall shape of the watch to take the shape of a pentagon. This is a most unusual and distinctive choice which has very seldom been used in the entire history of wristwatch design.

Why queue up for the ultimate cinematic experience when you can enjoy it in your own living room? When it comes to televisions that offer viewing at this level of quality, nothing beats a big plasma screen but these degrade with time. The good news is that Bang & Olufsen’s BeoVision 4 provides the remedy in the form of ‘automatic colour management’. A tiny built-in camera serves as an in-house technician, checking the screen after every 100 hours of use and adjusting the colour balance accordingly.

Bang & Olufsen’s advanced picture engines are combined with the best full HD 3D plasma screens in 85 or 103 inches, for a phenomenal viewing experience. Full HD means you see sharp details, rich, lifelike colours, and smooth movement of objects on the screen. And, it can handle a wide variety of present and future high definition sources: cable, satellite, and terrestrial TV, DVD, content streamed over broadband, game consoles, computer files, home video recorders, digital cameras. The external BeoSystem 3 module provides the intelligent technology behind the perfect picture and integrates all these high definition sources with complete digital surround sound and total BeoLink compatibility.

The attention to detail in the electronics of BeoVision 4 is matched by its looks with a smooth brushed aluminium finish and precise, diamond-cut joints. This slender profile is accentuated by the triangular BeoLab 10 centre speaker, designed to hang below the screen.

All of the VisionClear picture quality technologies are designed to ensure the highest quality picture possible. For example, the ‘automatic picture control’ sensor continuously measures the ambient light in the room and adjusts the light output from the screen accordingly. This guarantees the best viewing experience whether day or night, or whether your walls are white or wallpapered.

There are two pristine islands lying alongside each other in Cambodia’s unspoilt Koh Rong archipelago. Known locally as Song Saa, which means ‘The Sweethearts’ in Khmer, they now form Cambodia’s first private island resort

Most of Cambodia’s islands scattered across the blue waters of the Gulf of Thailand remain undeveloped offering deserted oases of virgin rainforests, tropical reefs and white beaches. Song Saa resort spans the islands of Koh Ouen and Koh Bong, connected by a footbridge over a marine reserve that has been established to safeguard the islands’ reefs and marine life including dugongs, seahorses and exotic species of tropical fish.

With the recent opening of the international airport at Sihanoukville, tourism in this tropical paradise is a growing trend. Rising to meet this demand, Song Saa will be positioned at the top end of the market for luxury resorts in Cambodia as well as setting a high environmental precedent.

On location

Song Saa Private Island is just a one-hour flight by private plane from Siem Reap or 30 minutes by boat after landing at Sihanoukville International Airport. Siem Reap has direct, daily flights to Asia’s main airport hubs such as Bangkok and Singapore making Song Saa a remarkably accessible, yet remote property.

Away from home comforts

There are 27 intimate villas at Song Saa, all built from sustainable materials and in perfect harmony with the natural environment. Uncompromising on luxury, they are designed to reflect the simple beauty of the surroundings.

Highly individual in design, the resort is inspired by Cambodian fishing villages with features such as over-water buildings, thatch roofs, rough-hewn natural timbers and drift wood furnishings. Guests will enjoy uninterrupted sunrise or sunset views from their Overwater, Beach or Jungle Villas, complete with private pools and all the creature comforts Robinson Crusoe could only fantasise about.

Each villa promises a sanctuary where guests can shower looking out over the ocean, sip cocktails whilst watching the sun set from their private veranda or have the resort’s chef treat them and their guests to fresh seafood under the stars. A twobedroom Royal Villa comes complete with its own private jetty for speedboat arrival and offers exceptional luxury and privacy for those in search of a discrete island hideaway.

At your leisure

Song Saa is working closely with government and non-governmental organisations, conservation authorities, marine biologists and community leaders to protect the environment and safeguard local livelihoods in a sustainable way. All this makes its Dive Centre one of the island’s leading attractions. It has a fully fledged marine biology team which will arrange all sorts of activities to showcase the local villages, marine life, nature and neighbouring islands; some of which are mountainous so offer amazing hikes, nature trails, wildlife and waterfalls.

A beachside water-sports centre offers sailing, diving, kayaking and snorkelling, while more relaxing activities include a Cambodian cooking school, champagne sunset cruises, stargazing and a moonlit cinema. The resort also has a spa set on its own island, providing the perfect location to enjoy a fantastic array of treatments, alongside a wellness centre for yoga and meditation. Romantic dining can be enjoyed at the Overwater Restaurant, where guests can sample dishes created by Neil Wager, the former executive chef from North Island.

Must do . . .

Explore the rainforest wildlife and nature by taking a day’s walking tour with Song Saa’s English-speaking guides.

Costs

From £430 / €500 / $668 per person per night including all meals and drinks, laundry, mini-bar, speedboat transfer from the neighbouring island of Koh Rong and most watersports, activities and excursions.

If you like nothing more than to lie back and relax in a deepwater bath, Laguna Spa could be exactly the tub you need. It’s made from the finest wood by Alegna, a Swiss company which formerly specialised in yacht building, and incorporates the best elements taken from spa-culture.

Many tests were carried out, prototypes built and design stages passed through in order to find the optimum form. The resulting wide rim and its integrated overflow enable the tub to be filled to the very brim so that excess water can then ‘gurgle’ gently away between the pebbles. This soothing system allows you to relax your neck and rest your head back in a good depth of warm water.

The highly resistant special varnish has been tested under the harshest conditions to guarantee optimal protection and ensure that the wooden bathtub will have a very long service life. There are several different fine woods, shapes and fittings to choose from so that you can select your preferred, personal model. Attractive optical accents can be set with different pebbles or a choice of other materials. Last but not least, due to their modular form of construction, the tubs can be supplied as fully equipped Jacuzzis and be installed directly into a bathroom or even a yacht.

The affluent and exclusive neighbourhood of Hollywood Hills is in the south-eastern Santa Monica Mountains. Although Hollywood has long represented the glitz and glamour of the film, television, and music industries, most studios have moved away from this quirky district in favour of other Los Angeles’ neighbourhoods. However, Hollywood still attracts millions of visitors each year who travel there to pay homage to their favourite stars and perhaps even catch a glimpse of some world famous celebrities.

Play

Hollywood Boulevard

The ‘heart’ of Hollywood is at the intersection of Hollywood Blvd and Highland Avenue where most of the most famous Hollywood tourist attractions can be found. These include celebities’ hand/footprints in the cement courtyard of the Chinese Theatre, the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood and Highland entertainment complex, Madame Tussaud’s and more. A short walk away are more of the familiar attractions, such as the Hollywood Wax Museum and Ripley’s Believe it or Not.

Stay

The London West Hollywood

Situated in the Hollywood Hills along the famous Sunset Strip, overlooking fabulous views of the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills skylines, The London West Hollywood is convenient to all that the city has to offer. Honoured with the AAA Four Diamond award, and recognised by both Conde Nast Traveler on its ‘Hot List’ for 2009 and Travel + Leisure as the No. 1 hotel in California on its ‘World’s Best’ list for 2010, this all-suite West Hollywood hotel, formerly known as the Bel Age hotel, expertly combines modern style with the allure of Hollywood.

Shop

Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills

The stretch of shops and boutiques on Rodeo Drive is only three blocks long but they constitute the most famous shopping district in America, and probably the most expensive three blocks of shops in the world. It’s here that the rich and famous do their shopping, and where tourists window-shop while trying to spot movie stars on the fabled street.

Dine

Ago Restaurant, West Hollywood

This chic Italian restaurant caters to the film industry’s power crowd. Robert DeNiro is part owner, so the star power is bound to stick! It’s famous for delicious brick oven pizza, health-conscious pasta, fish, and meat dishes. The clientele comes here for casual upscale Italian food on the al fresco terrace, bordered by cypress, olive trees and covered with tendrils of grapevines and bougainvillea, or in the somewhat rustic dining room. The open kitchen and bar add ambience to the space.
